Sustainable Information Technology in Tertiary Education

SusteIT Latest

SusteIT reflects the increasing importance of ICT-related energy and environmental issues, in the sector and elsewhere. It builds on the previous work of the HEFCE-funded Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvemement Initiative within the sector, and that of SustainIT, an independent charity, outside it. The two partners are running a project for the JISC on Sustainable IT in Universities and Colleges.

Keep coming back - there'll be a lot of new information between now and October.

We have been focusing initially on an events programme, and on developing and piloting a tool to assess the energy and carbon impacts of IT. Our first event, on Data Centre Cooling and Power Supply, was full and got excellent feedback. It also demonstrated that there is very good practice within the sector, but that we don't currently have the networks to disseminate it and bring people together. Helping to build these will be a continuing focus of our work.

We will also publish our report later in the summer, with accompanying case studies and technical documents.
